Curriculum: Science
The Pathway for Teaching Science
What is a black hole? How do aeroplanes fly? Why is the sky blue? Our universe is amazing and there are so many questions to answer. Young enquiring minds are always fascinated to find out more about how things came to be and why; it is our role to encourage and foster these interests by providing opportunities to explore, investigate, observe and question further. Through our curriculum children will see how science relates to real life, how it will impact on their future and prepare them to be responsible citizens in a challenging world.
In order to learn to think scientifically, it is important that children are not simply presented with a body of knowledge and facts. We harness their curiosity and develop young scientists by ensuring an exciting, creative Science curriculum. They become explorers, making mistakes, getting messy and raising their own questions. Children learn to explain what they have done and why. Questions are asked to deepen their understanding, taking learning to a higher level.
Children learn to think like scientists through our pathways for teaching. Through all topics and units they actively learn to:
Observe over time
Seek patterns
Identify, classify and group
Carry out comparative and fair testing
Research using secondary sources
